Volunteering

Cafeteria

The cafeteria needs parents to help in the cafeteria on a daily basis. Parents are responsible for wiping down and sanitizing the tables. Approximate time commitment: 2.5 hours (once or twice per month) from10:30AM until 1:00PM.

Library

The library needs parents to volunteer on a daily basis in either the morning or afternoon. Parents are responsible for shelving returned books to the stacks and assisting with checking out books. Approximate time commitment: 2 hours. Call the school office is you are interested in assisting.

Also, the library hosts the Scholastic Book Fair for 4 days in November. Parents are needed for various times slots during the school day on the Thursday and Friday preceding Thanksgiving Break, and during the day and evening on the Monday and Tuesday preceding Thanksgiving Break (Parent Teacher Conferences). Parents are responsible for helping set up and break down the book fair, assisting students in selecting books and assisting with cashiering duties.

Homerooms

Please check with individual homeroom teachers for ways to help. Primary grades usually need help with field trips and parent readers. Parents also may be needed to help with religious retreats. Parents also host the Halloween and Christmas parties, see the FSA section for more information.

FSA

Room Parents

A total of 4 parents are needed for each homeroom (2 for Halloween/2 for Christmas). Sign up sheets are
made available at the Parent Information Evening (PIE) in September. Parents are assigned on a first come, first serve basis. Special consideration is given to parents who were not assigned a homeroom the previous year. Parents are responsible for planning activities for the approximate 45 minute party.

Lunch With Santa

A small group of parents are needed to assist the chairperson with set up, clean up and activities that take
place during the event.

Santa's Shop

We need approximately 25 parents for each of 4 (2.5 hour) time slots. Parents assist students with shopping
and wrapping gifts. This is a very easy event to volunteer at and it really helps you get in a holiday mood.

Book Swap/Resolution to Read

Volunteers are needed to help collect books and distribute tickets. Assistance will also be needed to set up and clean up for the event. During the book swap we will need a few people to help with snacks.

Easter Candy Sale

Ten to 12 parents are needed to help unload the candy order on delivery day (March). The orders
have already been presorted and boxed. Parents alphabetize and hand out orders.

School Picnic

Ten to 12 parents are needed to help set up, clean up and serve at the school picnic at Waldameer on the last day of school. If you have older students and are looking for a way to help without causing them undue embarrassment, this is for you.

Box Tops for Education

One parent is needed for each grade level to clip and count the box top collection on a monthly basis. This is
very easy. The boxtops come home with your student, you clip and count, then call the numbers in to the Box Tops Coordinator.
